Conducting an international workshop entitled (The role of accessibility features in enhancing a community consciousness)

On Saturday, 2022/10/15, within the framework of (The youth empowerment and inclusion of youth with disabilities) project, in the presence of Cihan University Sulaymaniyah President, Assist. Prof Dr. (Omid Rafiq Fatah), ‏The workshop was entitled (The role of accessibility features in enhancing a community consciousness) for engineering departments.

The workshop began with a speech by Mr. Mariwan Wahbi, President of Halabja Disabled Organization(HDO), focused on the HDO activities and Practical Strategies to Promote Social inclusion and highlighted the strategy and objectives of the organization. In the other part of his speech, On behalf of the Halabja disabled organization thanked the Presidency of Cihan University-Sulaymani and the Head of the Department of Architecture (Mr. Tara) for their assistance, support, and cooperation.

Then Mr. Sarko Hassan delivered a speech on behalf of Cihan University and the Department of Engineering. 

Then disability rights activist (Mr. Hamkat Marouf) analyzed the challenges, importance, and impact of accessibility for people with disabilities and enhancing their abilities and our duty and responsibilities to mitigate and overcome these challenges to promote social inclusion. 

Then Mr. (Auder Omar) discussed the most important and latest ways and mechanisms of accessibility features needed in buildings and public places.

Also, Mr. (Assistant Professor Dr. Omid Rafiq Fatah) concluded the workshop with a speech. He promised to provide accessibility to the first floor of all departments and colleges in the university within the next month. Also, on behalf of Cihan university expressed their appreciation for this kind of activity and its impact on the future. He hopes to cooperate with Halabja Disabled Organization in future activities.

This activity is implemented by Halabja Disabled Organization in collaboration with Jihan University-Sulaimani and Un Ponte Per (UPP), sponsored by UNDP and coordinated by the Iraqi Government and with financial support from the European Union within the framework of the project "Hiwar."
