“The Disability Inclusion in Education Conference"

It dealt with many important topics that have been overlooked by the government ministries of education, health and Labor and social affairs, Kurdistan parliament members, experts, national and international NGOs and disability organizations.

The attendees and experts have discussed all the gaps affecting the Education of students with disabilities based on two scientific research papers which were written by the HDO research team in 2020 and 2021.

 

Mr. Mariwan Wahbi director of Halabja Disabled Organization mentioned

“The Students with disabilities have a lot of challenges and barriers. Each type of disability faces its own barriers, for example, mobility issues where schools and educational places are difficult to access. There are also those with hearing disabilities, for whom nothing is facilitated in the schools, especially curriculums.

Dr Jorma Kuitunen, Fida international country programme director said, Fida international are very committed to supporting the education sector in Kurdistan and Iraq, Education for all is a very important goal.

At the end of the conference, an expert committee was created to follow up on the recommendation of the conference.

The conference was organized by the Halabja Disabled Organization with support from Fida International and attended by Unicef, Handicap International, IOM and some Local DPOs.
